Students hike along a snowy trail. Last Saturday, we ended Winter Break with a snowy trek to Sweden Creek Falls, where we were met with a liminal landscape, enrobed in snow but spitting water and ice along the narrow trail. Our hike was led by anthropologist Timothy Landry, an expert on witchcraft, magic and sorcery who led the January intersession seminar on Witchcraft. “This is a good way to end our class – pagans have always found church outdoors,” Landry said at the beginning of the hike. Building on walking meditation and other exercises practiced throughout the week, we set out with Landry’s charge to “walk mindfully … look in the environment for places of enchantment – things that look different, feel different.”
