Lecture, exhibition by the amazing Kendall Buster; bottle build by ASG Sustainability Commission.
Last night I attended a lecture by the amazing artist Kendall Buster. She’s inspired by biological forms – a ripe pomegranate split open to reveal an intricate network of seeds, electron microscope images of cellular structures, etc. My favorite pieces included a temporary installation of saffron-colored fabric columns flowing down from a honeycomb-structured ceiling, and a series of hollow, budding forms suspended from the ceiling of a new chemistry building at Princeton. Models and drawings of her work are on display at sUgAR gallery, the UA-student-run gallery in downtown Bentonville – well worth the trip up I-540.
Students explore structure consisting of river cane, chicken wire and 5,700 empty bottles, built to demonstrate the number of bottles discarded on campus. All elements of the structure will be composted or recycled (Russell Cothren).
On Wednesday, Nov. 10 from be sure to drop by the Arkansas Union Plaza to experience an installation constructed from 1000s of empty water bottles by members of the ASG Sustainability Commission. Thanks to a grant from Walmart and funds from the Beaver Water District, the students will also give away 2,000 reusable Nalgene water bottles along with information about bottled water use. Honors College student Zoe Teague, who majors in Environmental, Soil and Water Science at Bumpers College, led this effort.
