Honors College Editor Job Description 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate student
  • Strong communication skills, especially writing
  • Active in social media; familiar with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn
  • Good eye for design/composition
  • Microsoft Office

Also desirable, but not required:

  • Photography and video skills
  • Familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress and web content management systems
  • Graphic design skills

Appointment:
This is a graduate assistant appointment, renewable up to 3 semesters per year (including summer), with renewal dependent on satisfactory performance evaluation at the end of each semester. Average 20 hours/week; flexible schedule. Competitive salary.

Duties:

  • Post, monitor and engage with followers on Honors College social media: currently Facebook, Twitter (daily), Instagram (regularly) & YouTube (as new videos become available). Support Honors College efforts to expand presence on LinkedIn.
  • Submit material to Honors College blog regularly. In addition to selecting and editing the best honors student blog post submissions, the editor may post interviews with honors students, alumni, faculty and staff; highlight Honors College courses and events; feature honors student research, study abroad, internships and service learning; and share advice on navigating the honors thesis process, maintaining work-life balance, preparing for life after campus, etc.
  • Contribute to A+, the Honors College Magazine, published once a year online and in print.
  • Edit Update e-newsletter, distributed 2 times each year.
  • Coordinate production and distribution of event emails to the Honors College mailing list.

Assist with other aspects of communications, such as writing faculty, student or alumni profiles for the website; pitching and writing articles about the Honors College experience for Research Frontiers, Arkansas Alumni Magazine and other campus magazines; assisting on photo and video shoots; publicizing events; and assisting with other office tasks as needed.
